I was disappointed with the lack of depth in this book. It offers conversation topics but doesn't give any scripts or recommendations for actually making those conversations go well. They suggest showing pictures and diagrams when discussing sex with kids but don't provide any resources. Would have been nice if the authors had taken the time to include those graphics or resources so parents wouldn't have to go searching for them (or spend more money on additional books). This book really wasn't that helpful, in my opinion. I really love the intent of this book. However this is only applicable in situations where the parents themselves already have a healthy understanding of sexual intimacy. The book uses bullet points to prompt the parent’s discussion with the child and requires the parents to “color-in” the blanks. I purchased this book as an intervening step-parent, and found myself wishing it was something I could just read out loud and discuss afterwards. In today’s “porn-ified” culture, I feel like there should be more child friendly materials out there like this, but a bit more spelled out for complex situations such as mine.
